Landis Valley Story
Timothy Essig is a Museum Educator II and Manager of Interpretation and Visitor Services at Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum. With thirty years of service in the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, Timothy oversees the Interpretation and Education departments, the Heirloom Seed Project, the Historic Farm and Animal Program and works with special events, media relations and volunteer projects.
His career highlights at Landis Valley include such roles as the 1st person PA German Christmas character, ‘the Belsnickle,” 1st person Henry Landis, one of the founders of the museum, coordinating Storytelling festivals, craft classes, Hands-on History Days and Homeschool classes, Civil War Days, and a presenter at the 2008 ALHFAM Annual Conference in Ottawa, Canada.
You can always find a history book on his reading table or next to his bed. Timothy is driven by his passion for history to motivate others to realize the importance of a subject some consider nothing more than names and dates. History is not just his vocation, but his avocation. He says, “It is in my blood.” He has dedicated himself to the principle that “there is history in all men’s lives?” (Shakespeare, Henry IV)
