In March, the Lancaster Sunrise Rotary Club donated books to Mrs. Corrigan's third grade class at Carter and MacRae Elementary School in Lancaster. The club has been tutoring, mentoring, and donating books to this school for over eleven years. The students are always excited to receive these books that were signed with words of encouragement by the club's weekly speakers. Ten members of the Lancaster Sunrise Club tutor at the school on a regular basis and host an annual Christmas party for the class.

Thank you to Dr. James Argires for his service to our country and for sharing the highlights from his recent visit to South Korea. Dr. Argires was chosen as one of 12 from PA/40 from the USA as an ambassador for Korean War Veterans for a special event/visit to South Korea in September of this year. Veterans from 15 nations were invited to participate. One of the highlights of the week was meeting President Moon and his wife during a special luncheon and event at the Olympic Stadium that evening. He said everyone was so hospitable, grateful and welcoming to them throughout the visit.

Dr. Argires is involved with the Korean War Veteran’s Association and mentioned that they are having a fundraiser here in Lancaster on Sunday, January 13th as part of their efforts to raise $13M across the country for the Wall of Remembrance to be placed behind the existing monument in Washington DC. Here’s the link to the event in case you are interested.

JAN GILLESPIE - THE JANUS SCHOOL

Thank you to Henry Hershey for inviting Jan Gillespie, Head of School, to speak with us on Thursday regarding the history, goals, and exciting initiatives of The Janus School. We are so fortunate to have a school of this caliber in Lancaster County that offers the level of curriculum and compassion to help students with learning differences to access their full potential. I believe we all came away with a better of understanding and appreciation for what The Janus School offers students and their families. Jan also spoke about their pilot program, Transitions at Janus, that bridges the journey from high school to independence by offering students age 18-22 the support and strategies they need to pursue apprenticeships, college, and employment. You can learn more about The Janus School at  www.thejanusschool.org .

Thank you for spending the morning with us Jan!
